If you want nonstick cookware but are looking to stay away from PTFE, ceramic cookware might be the answer.Credit: Organic Authority Studio

Ceramic cookware is a trending topic in the cookware world. Why? As it turns out, traditional nonstick cookware made from PFAS chemicals (the parent class of over 12,000 synthetic chemicals that includes PTFE, GenX, PFOAs, and PFOS used to create nonstick coatings) isn’t so healthy for humans or the environment.1

For years, these ‘forever chemicals’ from cookware and many other consumer products have been contaminating our waterways and, unfortunately, our bodies. It’s big news — you can read more about the consequences we’re dealing with here

Some of the health issues associated with PFAS chemicals include testicular and kidney cancer, infertility, liver damage, slow metabolism, and thyroid disease.2, 3 So is your scratched up nonstick cookware from 5 years ago really worth the risk? Hmmm.

Tasha Stoiber, EWG, Ph.D., Senior Scientist, says this about PFAS,

“PFAS, a family of compounds including Teflon, can be found in the blood of people all over the world, including 99 percent of Americans. The production of consumer goods using these chemicals pollutes drinking water, food and wildlife, and since PFAS do not break down, they remain in the environment and people for decades. Almost everywhere we look we find more PFAS.”

Thanks to smart consumers who’ve become educated on the dangers of polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE cookware (also known by the trade name Teflon, which many now call ‘toxic cookware’), the popularity of non-toxic ceramic cookware and bakeware has soared. Demand for ceramic-coated nonstick cookware and pure ceramic cookware specifically has skyrocketed.

To help you make an informed decision about which ceramic pots and pans to buy in place of your old PTFE cookware, we’ve rounded up the best ceramic cookware options for health-conscious home chefs like you.

In this guide, we’ll dive deep into the 9 best ceramic cookware sets of 2025. We’ll explore their features, pros and cons, and what real users are saying. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a cooking novice, you’ll find the perfect set to elevate your culinary game — without toxic chemicals.

Ceramic Cookware Tested / TL;DR

As a trained chef and founder of Organic Authority, I’ve been testing ceramic cookware for over 10 years. I’ve cooked everything in these pans, including scrambled and fried eggs, delicate fish, proteins, sauces, vegetables, oatmeal, and more. I’ve tested the durability of each with non-toxic metal, wooden, and silicone utensils. And as you can imagine, I’ve scrubbed a lot of pans and can tell you which ones are easy to clean.

I’ve also tested the cheap ceramic cookware lines against the premium brands, and there is a big difference. Experience has taught me that it’s worth investing in brands that are durable and well-constructed.

Keep reading for the pros and cons of each brand based on my extensive testing — but for those short on time, here’s a quick rundown of the 9 best ceramic cookware sets:

Criteria Breakdown of Our 9 Best Ceramic Cookware Rankings

When testing the best ceramic cookware sets on this list, I considered several important factors.

  • Nonstick Performance: How well does the nonstick coating or pure ceramic prevent food from sticking?
  • Durability: Can the cookware withstand regular use without chipping or losing its nonstick properties?
  • Heat Distribution: Does the set heat evenly, preventing hot spots that can lead to burnt food?
  • Versatility: Can the cookware be used on various stovetops and in the oven?
  • Ease of Cleaning: How simple is it to clean and maintain the cookware?
  • Safety: Is the cookware free from harmful chemicals like PFAS, PTFE, and PFOA?
  • Design and Aesthetics: Does the set look good and complement your kitchen style?
  • Price: Does it offer good value for the quality provided?

These criteria ensure that our recommendations not only perform well but also align with health and environmental concerns, making them suitable for conscious consumers.

What Is Ceramic Cookware?

Despite its rising popularity, ceramic cookware isn’t just a trend — it’s a revolution in the kitchen. These pots and pans offer a safer, more eco-friendly alternative to traditional nonstick options. They’re free from potentially harmful chemicals like PFOA and PTFE, distribute heat evenly, and are incredibly easy to clean. Plus, they come in a range of stylish designs that can brighten up any kitchen.

But the world of ceramic cookware is as varied as it is eco-friendly. Some cookware companies coat a metal core with a slick ceramic layer derived from natural substances like GreenPan’s proprietary coating Thermolon™ or Caraway, Our Place, and Alva Cookware’s sol-gel methods. Other sets forgo the metal entirely and are made from 100% ceramic materials from core to surface, like Xtrema.

Like all cookware, not all ceramic cookware is created equal. Much like there are pros and cons of carbon steel vs. stainless steel vs. cast iron, some ceramic-coated pans lose their slickness quickly or have poor heat conduction. Others, despite eco-friendly claims, are made with toxic chemicals that aren’t much better than traditional nonstick.

Know this upfront when you’re considering buying ceramic-coated nonstick cookware. No nonstick cookware lasts a lifetime (including PTFE!) — it’s just the nature of the material. The longevity of your pots and pans will also be dictated by how rough you are on your nonstick cookware. Keep reading after our rankings to see my tips on getting the most out of your nonstick cookware.

We do our best to update this guide regularly to shout-out exclusive and seasonal sales where Organic Authority readers can save big on non-toxic cookware brands. Sign up for the newsletter here so you never miss an exclusive sale.

The 9 Best Ceramic Cookware Sets, Tested

1. Most Advanced: GreenPan’s GP5 Healthy Ceramic Nonstick 11-Piece Cookware Set

GreenPan’s GP5 line offers advanced ceramic technology with a gorgeous finish — and it’s one of my personal favorites. – Credit: GreenPan

GreenPan is one of the best ceramic cookware brands on the market today. They were the first to bring PFAS-free ceramic nonstick cookware to the market in 2007. The GP5 line takes full advantage of 15 years of innovation and development to deliver an advanced collection of ceramic pots and pans. You can read more about GreenPan in our deep dive of the brand and our favorite GreenPan sets reviewed.

GP5 Features

GreenPan’s GP5 set offers more than just everyday utility — it brings professional-grade performance to your kitchen. Free from PFAS, PFOA, lead, and cadmium, this set exemplifies healthy, eco-friendly cooking.

Ultra Tough Ceramic Coating (Metal-Utensil Tolerant!)

Each piece is crafted with GreenPan’s Infinite8 proprietary Thermolon™ ceramic nonstick coating that’s reinforced with diamonds, making it one of the toughest ceramic coatings available (it typically performs very high on the Mohs Hardness scale, which measures the scratch resistance of ceramic coatings).

Unlike most ceramic nonstick, this tough coating makes these pans metal utensil tolerant. This is a big deal because that means your pan won’t degrade as quickly with scratches and dings from metal utensil use. Plus, when you do eventually need to update your cookware, GreenPan even helps you recycle your old cookware set.

Impressive Heat Conduction

The GP5’s patented Magneto base provides impressive heat conduction on all stovetops, including induction. The GP5 is noticeably thick, which does give it a little more weight, but that also contributes to its better heat conduction (no hot spots!) and a longer lifespan. Its Balance Pro base flexes when heated so that oil stays where you put it.

Easy to Clean

Its slick, nonstick coating makes the GP5 set a breeze to clean. The silhouette rivets also help eliminate jammed food in small crevices, keeping the pans cleaner. I’ve cooked a few stuck-on messes like over-reduced sauces and burnt cheese, and they came clean with just a little soap, water, and a soft brush. I’m also a fan of the heat vents in the opaque lids that prevent liquids from boiling over (like my homemade morning oatmeal).

Comes in a Variety of Colors

If you love color in your kitchen, we’ve got good news for you. The GP5 set comes in a classic array of colors: choose from taupe, cream, slate, oxford blue, and cocoa. There’s even a stainless steel option with gorgeous champagne handles that still features the Infinite8 Ceramic Nonstick coating.

Ideal cooking temperature: medium to medium-low heat, but will tolerate some high-heat cooking.

Pros Cons
100% PFAS-free, ceramic-coated nonstick surface Doesn’t last a lifetime
Dishwasher-safe, easy to clean A smidge heavier
Oven-safe up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit Higher price point
Metal utensil safe
Can be used on all stovetops including induction
Excellent heat conduction
Diamond-reinforced coating for extra durability
Includes 3 pan protectors and silicone utensil set
Lids come with a steam vent
Set comes with a stock pot, making it incredible value for money
As you can see, the pros far outweigh the cons for our top pick, GreenPan’s GP5 line.

2. Best Multifunction System: Our Place, 13-Piece Cookware Set

Our Place made a name for itself with its viral Always Pan, designed for modern, space-conscious cooks. Designed as a kitchen multitool, it offers the capability of several kitchen tools, allowing you to have fewer cookware pieces.

I started testing Our Place’s ceramic nonstick cookware in 2024, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the durability and quality of their cookware. I’ve yet to see a scratch and the coating is still very nonstick. I simply add a bit of oil or fat (never use nonstick spray on your nonstick cookware!) and preheat it to ensure a nonstick surface  — you really don’t need much.

Image of the Our Place ceramic cookware set, including the Always Pan 2.0 and the Perfect Pot 2.0, set in a warm and cozy kitchen.

Our Place Features

Space-Saving Modular Design

The new Always Pan 2.0 and Perfect Pot 2.0 in both full and mini sizes are seriously impressive at empowering you to do more with less. You’re getting a flexible system with integrated tools like a nesting steamer basket, spatulas and spoons that nest, built-in strainers, and thoughtful pour spouts on either side of the pots and pans.

Durable and Effective Nonstick

To ensure effective nonstick capabilities, Our Place developed their own proprietary ceramic coating called Thermakind®, which uses a sol-gel method for application. Derived primarily from silica, sand, and water, the nonstick coating is completely free of synthetic chemicals and heavy metals, from PFAS and PTFE to lead and cadmium.

The new nonstick coating in the 2.0 versions is also 50% more durable than the prior iteration, according to co-founder Shiza Shahid. The durable nonstick coating also makes these pots and pans super easy to clean (although hand washing is still recommended to prevent the heat from the dishwasher deteriorating the nonstick coating). Plus, they’re oven-safe up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Premium Cast Aluminum Construction

The cast aluminum construction means these pots and pans conduct heat really well. And because the core of Our Place’s ceramic cookware is made from cast aluminum, it’s much lighter than most of the other picks on this list. Each pan also comes with a stainless steel plate that makes their cookware compatible on all stovetops (including induction) and helps with even heat conduction.

Great for Both Large and Small Meals

Some of my other favorite features are the deep curved walls and helper handle that make it ideal for cooking meals for the whole family or dinner parties. The helper handle is a game changer, making it easy to lift a large pan full of food around the kitchen. Do note that because these pans are made of lightweight aluminum, the handles get hot, so use hot pads or thick dish towels when picking them up!

Ideal cooking temperature: low to medium heat, although it can tolerate medium-high heat to brown food — just be sure to keep an eye on it.

Pros Cons
100% PFAS-free, ceramic-coated nonstick surface Not dishwasher-safe
Oven-safe up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit Not metal utensil safe
The multifunction system includes nesting spatulas, spoons, and a steamer basket which doubles as a colander Doesn’t last a lifetime
Compatible with all cooktops, including induction
Excellent even heat conduction
Perfect Pot 2.0 comes with an integrated pasta strainer
Includes steam release lids
Light weight
The many pros of Our Place’s ceramic cookware make it #2 on our list of top picks.

3. Best Modern Design: Caraway Cookware Set

Caraway’s ceramic pans aren’t just about the aesthetics (although they’re beautiful!) — their non-toxic ceramic coating is built to last. – Credit: Caraway Home

If you want pans as pretty as they are high-functioning, Caraway is the brand for you. This set combines style with substance, offering a non-toxic, nonstick surface that’s a dream to cook with. The sleek pans also boast a vintage appeal and are available in nine different colors to suit your kitchen aesthetic — or if you want to go for their classic “Iconics” collection with gold handles, these sets are available in black, white, and silt green.

A set includes four true kitchen essentials: a fry pan, saucepan, sauté pan, and Dutch oven.

Caraway Features

Long-Lasting Non-Toxic Coating

Caraway’s non-toxic ceramic coating is made from a mineral sol-gel method with silicone dioxide or silica. It will last, as long as it’s treated properly. What does that mean?

These pots and pans are best used with care for medium to medium-low heat cooking — so no searing high-heat cook-offs, steaming hot dishwashers, or metal utensils. High heat will quickly degrade the nonstick surface, shortening the lifespan of your beautiful cookware. As long as you take care of them, they’re a great investment — I’ve been cooking with my first set for five years and the coating still works!

Even Heat Distribution

These pots and pans are on the heavier side, but in my mind that’s not a bad thing because it means fewer hot spots. The 4.5-quart sauté pan also comes with a helper handle that makes it easy to maneuver despite its weight, making it possible to whip up large dishes for friends and family.

Versatile Workhorses

All of the pots and pans have an aluminum core that gives them excellent heat conduction, and their stainless steel base makes them induction compatible, too. Plus, they’re oven-safe up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit — pretty impressive, if you ask us. Caraway cookware is also third-party tested (by SGS and TUV) and California Prop 65 compliant.

We’ve also tested and reviewed both Caraway’s non-toxic bakeware set and their food storage containers, both of which I fell in love with. To learn more about their ethos, read our deep dive review of Caraway cookware (including a Q&A session with their founder!) here.

4. Best Pure Ceramic: Xtrema Ceramic Cookware Set

You can’t get much cleaner than pure ceramic cookware, which is what Xtrema is. – Credit: Xtrema

As opposed to other brands on this list, Xtrema’s pots and pans don’t have a metal core or nonstick coating. Instead, this unique brand takes full advantage of thousands of years of ceramic cookware traditions, offering a clay collection that showcases the beauty of pottery, the durability of porcelain, and the heat retention of stoneware.

Made from clay, water, and natural oxides that get triple-fired at 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, Xtrema’s cookware is durable, scratch-resistant, and easy to clean. These pans are certified PFAS, PTFE and PFOA-free, and they’re also California Prop 65 compliant. You can read more here about Xtrema Cookware and the founder’s mission to create the cleanest cookware possible. Their mission doesn’t just extend to pots and pans, either — once you fall in love with the benefits of pure ceramic, Xtrema sells everything from ceramic air fryer accessories to a classic 100% ceramic Dutch Oven.

“In my experience, Xtrema’s cookware retains heat so well that you won’t need to cook dishes with as high a temperature as you’re used to.”

Laura Klein, Pro-Trained Chef and Co-Founder of Organic Authority

Image of Xtrema ceramic pan on a gas range with fried rice
I’ve found with just a little oil, you’ll have an excellent naturally nonstick pan (even for eggs!).

Xtrema Cookware Features

Ideal for Low and Slow Cooking

Xtrema cookware is ideal for all of your low and slow cooking needs like soups, stews, braises, and more. I personally love it for hearty dishes like shakshuka and spinach artichoke dip. I recommend following the brand’s advice on preheating your pot or pan on low for about three minutes before adding oil or fat, which results in a naturally nonstick surface. You can then raise the temperature if you wish — just be careful of drastic temperature changes, which could damage your cookware and void Xtrema’s generous 10-year warranty.

Excellent Heat Retention

In my experience, when preheated properly, Xtrema’s cookware retains heat so well that you may not need to cook dishes with as high a temperature as you’re used to. That same heat retention and beautiful design makes this cookware ideal for effortless transitions from the stovetop to oven to table, all while keeping your food warm.

Dishwasher-Safe

Xtrema cookware isn’t just safe for your stovetop and oven, it’s also dishwasher-safe. The 100% ceramic construction means you can technically throw your Xtrema pots and pans in the dishwasher without risking damage to the cooking surface or structural integrity. Having said that, I still recommend hand-washing to ensure the longest possible lifespan for your cookware.

To get started, I recommend their Signature Series Set (detailed below) or you could always pick up single pieces as needed. I love their redesigned signature skillet with shallow side walls for eggs, and I can’t say enough good things about their classic oval Dutch oven — either of those are a great place to start your collection.

Ideal cooking temperature: low to medium-low heat for slow and low cooking, or high temperatures after preheating

This cookware set has truly stood the test of time. I’ve been cooking with it for years, and it’s seriously durable. Simply put, it just does the job it’s supposed to when it comes to nonstick ceramic cookware.

Valencia Pro Features

Award-Winning and Best-Selling

The Valencia Pro is a bestseller and winner of both the Good Housekeeping Sustainable Innovation Award and America’s Test Kitchen Best Ceramic Nonstick.

“GreenPan makes cookware with strict quality assurance procedures to ensure the absence of heavy metals such as lead and cadmium and endocrine-disrupting fluorinated compounds from its ceramic nonstick coating.”

Judges of the Good Housekeeping Awards

Valencia Pro is GreenPan’s best-selling set for a reason. Crafted from hard anodized aluminum, it boasts maximum strength and scratch resistance. Plus, it works on induction surfaces, and the incredible nonstick surface makes it very easy to clean.

Dependable, Everyday Nonstick Cooking

Recently, I stayed at a friend’s house, and she showed me the Valencia Pro saute pan given to her two years prior by a family member. My friend had used it to cook everything from scrambled eggs to pancakes over high heat (to get those delicious brown edges). I was shocked at how well the Valencia Pro stood up to all of this. After her glowing review, I couldn’t help but put that same pan to the test with an egg and a little butter. Even though the pan had some oil stains, its nonstick qualities held up surprisingly well.

If you’re looking for a dependable non-toxic cookware set that can handle daily cooking demands, the Valencia Pro 11-piece collection is a solid choice. It features GreenPan’s diamond-reinforced Thermolon™ ceramic coating and hard-anodized construction for durability, even heating, and excellent nonstick results.

Ideal cooking temperature: medium to medium-low heat, but will tolerate high-heat cooking.

Pros Cons
Extremely durable, time-tested Doesn’t last a lifetime
Thermolon diamond-infused ceramic nonstick coating
Metal utensil safe
Works on all stovetops, including induction
Oven-safe up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit
Dishwasher-safe
While the Valencia Pro won’t last long enough to hand down to the next generation, it still has quite a few pros and is worth recommending.

Of course, like the rest of GreenPan’s products, the Venice Pro Noir is far from just a pretty face. These pans are total workhorses, with three-ply stainless cores and a diamond-infused Thermolon™ ceramic coating for a durable surface with maximum release. This means you can flip the perfect pancake every time — and not have to suffer through a stressful clean-up afterwards.

Smart Tempered Glass Lids

I especially love the glass lids, which make it possible to watch your favorite dishes come together before your very eyes. The pans also have a built-in strainer and spout that makes pouring liquids easy and mess-free.

It’s your choice whether to go for a full set like the one below (which is an incredible value!) or to pick up individual pieces as needed, from a frypan to a stockpot.

Ideal cooking temperature: medium to medium-low heat, although it will tolerate higher heat.

8. Made In’s CeramiClad Frying Pan Set

Made In rolled out their first PFAS-free ceramic-coated nonstick cookware, the CeramiClad™ line, in 2024. It combines their award-winning, chef-driven 5-ply Stainless Clad Frying Pan with a ceramic nonstick coating. These pans feature a clean minimalist design and deliver excellent heat conduction. Designed with the support of world-class pro chefs, they offer pro performance with minimal oil needed.

CeramiClad Features

Even Heat Distribution and Stay-Cool Handle

Just like Made In’s traditional stainless steel cookware, this pan heats evenly without any hot spots. Their ceramic nonstick cookware also features their iconic Stay-Cool Handle, which is hollow and dissipates heat. We still always recommend using a hot pad or thick dish towel any time you pick up a hot pan, but the handle helps the cookware fit easily in the hand and keeps you at a good distance from your hot stovetop.

Chef-Designed for Kitchen Efficiency

Another feature I love is the pan’s wide base and curved sides, which make it easy to flip your food. I tested eggs, pancakes, and fish, and they all easily slid up the curved sides and onto a plate, even without much oil. The pans are also oven-safe up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can throw them in the oven for easy roasting and baking. Plus, I love that these pots and pans are made in the USA.

Reliable and Durable

When it comes to durability, this set’s 5-ply Stainless Clad interior gives me a lot of confidence. Its longevity will depend on giving the cookware’s nonstick exterior the proper care, but that care will pay off in the long run. When storing it, avoid stacking your pots and pans, or use a dish towel or pan protectors to prevent scratches.

Ideal cooking temperature: Medium to medium-low heat.

Pros Cons
100% PFAS-free, ceramic-coated nonstick surface Doesn’t last a lifetime
Professional grade Carries a higher price point with fewer pieces in a set
Lightweight yet sturdy Not metal utensil resistant
Excellent heat conduction
Oven-safe up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit
Compatible with gas, induction, and electric stovetops
The CeramiClad line is reliable, versatile, and easy to use.

Notable Mentions

In our testing, there were a handful of other nonstick ceramic cookware brands that were great, but didn’t quite make our cut. Although they didn’t crack our top 9, here are the sets we felt still deserved an honorable mention.

Blue Diamond Ceramic Nonstick Cookware Set

A budget-friendly option claiming to be 5 times harder and 10 times longer lasting than traditional nonstick. Unfortunately, we were skeptics going into testing, and it didn’t do much to convince us otherwise. It felt thin when handled, and it acquired a few dings and scratches after just a few uses. It might be a good starting point if you really can’t afford one of our top 9 contenders, but our set was quickly recycled.

Bialetti Ceramic Pro Cookware Set

From the iconic Italian brand Bialetti, this set features a nano-ceramic coating and a textured surface for better browning. It’s also quite affordable, but unfortunately it didn’t pass our durability test. It scratched easily after several uses, and we quickly lost faith in the nonstick coating.

Laura’s Tips for Cooking and Caring for Your Ceramic Cookware

Image of a colorful graphic with Laura's Cheat Sheet for Cooking with Nonstick Ceramic Cookware, where she gives tips to help make your non-toxic cookware last as long as possible and preserve your high-quality cookware investment.
Here are my quick tips for getting the most life out of your non-toxic, nonstick ceramic cookware.  – Credit: Organic Authority Studio

Caring for ceramic-coated and pure ceramic nonstick pans is similar to caring for any nonstick. I always recommend washing by hand for longevity, even when the manufacturer says the dishwasher is okay. And avoid abrasive cleaning pads, which can often degrade the surface just as much as a super hot dishwasher. Remember that their nonstick coating makes them easy to wash, so hand-washing shouldn’t pose a problem anyway!

So what do you do if you burn something and it won’t come off with gentle scrubbing? Use my tried-and-true chef trick: add some water to your pan, put it over low heat for a few minutes, and use a wooden spoon to lift the burned-on bits before you rinse and hand wash. A little thoughtful care and attention goes a long way.

Another thing to avoid to maximize the lifespan of your ceramic nonstick cookware is metal utensils (again, even if the manufacturer says otherwise). Steer clear to prevent scratches on your pans —I like to use silicone or wood utensils instead (and stay away from plastic at all costs, please!).

I also recommend keeping them away from extremely high heat. The ideal cooking temperature is highlighted for each of the sets on our list above, but it’s generally best practice with all nonstick to cook over medium or low heat — no high-heat searing.

Still on the fence on which set to go for, or if ceramic nonstick is even for you? Leave a comment below and I’ll weigh in with my expert opinion and tips!

FAQs

Is Ceramic Cookware Safe?

Yes, ceramic cookware is generally considered safe, and a much healthier alternative to traditional nonstick. It’s free from PFOA and PTFE, and when used properly, doesn’t leach harmful chemicals into food. For maximum safety, always check the manufacturer’s specifications and use as directed.

How Long Does Ceramic Cookware Usually Last?

With proper care, ceramic-coated cookware can last 3-5 years. However, nonstick properties that rely on a coating may begin to degrade after 1-2 years of regular use. Premium brands may last longer, and pure ceramic can last a lifetime.

Can I Use Metal Utensils With Ceramic Cookware?

It’s best to avoid metal utensils with most ceramic cookware (and nonstick cookware in general) to prevent scratching. Stick to wood and silicone utensils whenever possible. Some brands are sold as metal utensil safe (see the Pros and Cons charts for all of the sets on this list), but it’s still best to avoid them to take care of your pots and pans.

Is Ceramic Cookware Dishwasher-Safe?

Many ceramic cookware sets are dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is always recommended to prolong the life of your pan’s nonstick coating. Check the manufacturer’s care instructions, but lean on the safe side as much as you can.

Can Ceramic Cookware Be Used on Induction Cooktops?

Not all ceramic cookware is induction-compatible. Look for sets specifically labeled as induction-friendly, which typically have a magnetic stainless steel base.

What Are the Disadvantages of Ceramic Cookware?

There are some downsides to choosing ceramic nonstick, notably lifespan. Ceramic cookware simply doesn’t last as long as traditional PTFE nonstick. You’ll need to be conscious of your use and care of your pans to keep them from wearing out too quickly.

How Does Ceramic Cookware Stand Up to PTFE?

As mentioned, one possible reason that you might opt for PTFE over ceramic nonstick is durability. To try and get the best of both worlds, some might opt for a modern PTFE nonstick skillet that does not contain PFOAs and will outperform ceramics in terms of longevity.

We’ve put these modern PTFE pans to the test and it’s true that they tend to win out on durability, although the high-quality ceramic pans on our list come close when properly cared for and maintained. Made In is a good option, with professional-grade PTFE pans that are oven-safe up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Image of a line of Made In frypans lined up and stacked by twos on a wood countertop, the front stack of two is in focus, the rest are out of focus. This brand is a good alternative to the best ceramic cookware brands.
There are modern PTFE pans, like these Made In options, that aren’t ceramic but don’t contain PFOAs. – Credit: Made In

Still, Made In is far from perfect. The PTFE supply chain continues to be problematic, and there’s the outstanding question of how modern brands dispose of the PFAS chemicals used to make PTFE. If you’re interested in learning more, we’ve covered the issue of PTFE cookware safety in depth.

Brands We Don’t Recommend and Why

There are loads of other green nonstick brands on the market today, so why didn’t they make it onto our list?

In a word: longevity. Although we’ve noted that no nonstick cookware will last forever, the brands in our top 9 will last much longer than others, meaning they’re ultimately a better investment for both our wallets and the environment.

We’ve tried PTFE-free nonstick pans from Ecolution’s Bliss Line, Ozeri Green Earth, GreenLife Soft Grip, Cuisinart’s Green Gourmet 12-piece set, and Scanpan. In our tests, the coating deteriorated too quickly for us to give them a recommendation — and that’s even with hand-washing and wood or silicone utensils. You will be replacing them in 3 months, and you’ll be mad that you wasted your time and money.

Consider a high-quality ceramic pan an investment — in your cooking, your health, and the environment! If you can’t buy a whole set, buy one or two pans that you think you will use the most often to start, and then build out your collection from there.

Final Thoughts

Ceramic cookware has revolutionized the way we approach nonstick cooking, offering a safer, more eco-friendly alternative to traditional options. No matter what you’re looking for in your home kitchen, there’s a ceramic set out there to match your needs and budget. Consider factors like durability, heat distribution, and price when making your choice.

At Organic Authority, we’re committed to helping you make informed decisions about the products you bring into your home. By choosing ceramic over traditional PTFE, you’re making a choice that promotes healthier, more sustainable living — and our picks make sure you don’t have to sacrifice performance in the process.
